Our creative  writing competition is available to all MSAACS schools, even if they are not able to attend our March and April/May competitions.  Every school is encouraged to get involved!*


Who: Students in Grades 4-6 (Elementary); 7-8 (Junior High)


Categories:  Elementary Poetry - Write a poem about something that is your favorite (examples: your

                                                       favorite pet, food, holiday, activity).

                     Elementary Short Story - Write a story in which a pet changes in an unusual way

                                                               (examples: small pet becomes huge, slow pet becomes fast).

                     Junior High Poetry - Write a poem about something you see every day (examples:

                                                        toothbrush, spoon, cell phone, chair).

                     Junior High Short Story - Write a story that involves changed plans.


Submission Deadline: December 11, 2023

*The high school creative writing competition takes place during the spring semester. Details will be sent to your school.

How to participate

  1. Pick a day for your students to participate in this event at your school.  It could be during school or after school...it's totally up to you.
  2. Remember, students may write in both poetry and short story in your school competition, but you may only enter a student in one category at the state level.
  3. Judge each piece and select the top 3 for each category.
  4. Send the top 3 pieces from each category a (a possibility of 12 total) and mail them to TOCS Creative Writing, 1311 E Bankhead Dr, Weatherford, TX, 76086.
  5. Selections must be received by December 11, 2023.
